Yes, as many of you guys know, we are twins. We love being twins (for the most part). We understand each other. We have similar tastes. We can talk about an episode of the bachelor for hours. We can talk to each other at those boring Indian parties with a bunch of toddlers. But like anything in this world, it’s not easy being a twin. I can think of several disadvantages of having someone that looks “exactly” like you. Having a twin doesn’t make me any more special than someone who doesn’t have a twin. On some occasions, I feel that having a twin makes simple things difficult. For example, it’s really hard to cope with the fact that some people can’t tell who I am the moment they see me. Some call me by my first name, but some call me by my last name in order to avoid the embarrassment of calling me by my sister’s name.

But with that being said, WE KNOW that we're different from each other in many ways. We’ve been with each other for some of the best memories in our life, but at the same time we both have a special knack for getting under each others skin. So here are some things that bother us about each other and some things we value about each other.

4 Things I “Hate” about Shakli (her nickname when she’s a bad girl)

She’s kind of bipolar

Obviously Shikha hasn’t been diagnosed with bipolar disorder, and I’m not trying to diagnose her as I am not a professional in that field. However, in my eyes, she has these mood changes randomly throughout the day. It's SUPER annoying. Like one second she’s happy, and the next she’s angry and won’t respond to me. I do believe she needs help to cure this severe annoyance in my life.

She’s selfish sometimes

Sometimes she fails to share. I don’t know who taught her to be selfish but it’s kind of rude. Like if I want to wear a shirt of hers, she won’t let me. Again, kind of annoying because it’s not like she was going to wear that shirt that day. Shikha if you’re reading this, please share a bit more.

She gives harsh criticism (kind of a good thing but it’s annoying)

Sometimes I put on an indian outfit for mandir and she feels the need to say “that doesn’t look good on you”. Like how rude. I think it stings more because I kind of think it's true, but the fact she calls me out on it, angers me.

Sometimes her voice gets annoying

When she’s going through her bipolar times throughout the day, her voice changes octaves. It gets super high and disturbs my ears. Or when she’s angry, her voice gets very very very annoying.

5 Things I like about Shikha

We share the same hobbies

This is probably one of the things that I value the most. We both are risk-takers and like to do the same things. For instance, one day, we both just made a last minute decision to go for a hike and jump off a rope swing into the lake in the suburbs of Austin. Another thing we share is the passion for sports and working out. Growing up, we both played on the same teams and ran the same relays which kind of gave us an advantage because we understood each others strategy. Another hobby we share is studying (I promise we’re not nerds), but we both like to just study and listen to music and get work done. I can list wayyyyy more, but you guys get the point.

We share the same style

We both share the same style in both athletic and casual wear, this makes buying clothes and shoes cheaper and easier because we share the same size. But as you know, sometimes she fails to share clothes that we bought for “sharing”.

She’s smart

We both work on homework and school work together. We also take the same classes so we are able to check answers and what not.

We can share food

If I didn’t have Shikha when we go out to eat, I'd waste enough food to feed another person. I remember this one time we went out to get ice cream with some friends, and the cup was HUGEEEE. But thank god, Shikha saved me.

I’m never alone

You know those times when you walk in the halls or are in a class all alone because you have no other friends. For me, times like that are pretty rare. I’m never alone when I fear being alone. I always have someone beside me who will always support me and give decent advice :)).

4 Things I “Hate” about Shruti (she doesn’t have a nickname because she’s an angel according to Pratik and Rashmi )

She cries maybe a little too much

If you collected every tear Shruti has shed (over stupid stuff) and put it in a bucket and filtered the salt and whatever crap that she discretes through her eyes it could probably quench the thirst of the entire population of a medium sized country. It's totally ok to cry!! But the thing is Shruti will cry over: not being able to find something, the first day of school, when she gets a “bad” grade, schedule changes, talking to the office lady, forgetting to feed the goldfish, etc. See you guys get the point!

She takes my clothes and claims that they were “sharing”

This is one that annoys me the most! Let me break it down, so i'll go shopping with my older sister (a shopping freakkk) because Shruti says she has to “study” and that she doesn’t need any clothes. Now whatever I bought that day automatically becomes shared in Shruti's mind. I don’t mind sharing, she can wear whatever she wants but I should have the right to choose when I get to wear it. So SHRUTI, next time stop “studying” :)

She can’t take judgement or advice because she thinks she's always right

She asks too many stupid questions

Shruti is smart but outside of school she doesn’t have a lot of common sense. So she tends to say dumb things a lot and it’s annoying because how could someone so smart say such bizzarre things.

4 Things I like about Shruti

She’s VERY intelligent

Shruti’s work ethic is very inspiring. She likes to work and everything she does, school related, is always great quality. Shruti is one of those kids whose essay is always pinned in the front of class. Having her as my twin means we can work on homework together, study together, etc. She’s gonna do BIG things in the future and I know it!!

She's my travel buddy

We share the same passion for traveling. When we go on vacations together, she's my best friend. We both are very adventurous so it is always nice to have someone to explore new places with.

She shares SOME of her nice clothes with me

She makes me laugh a LOTT

Hands down the funniest person I know. Sometimes she makes me laugh so hard that my abs ache, no one has made me laugh that hard. SO THANK YOU SHRUTI

xo,

Shikha and Shruti
